River of Stars

Felt summer days
and those endless nights
Dusk til dawn
then she moved on
We threw rocks in the lake
heard ‘em skip on the water
heard ‘em ring in the night
heard the stones sing day light

CHORUS:
People gonna have the heartache
They ain’t gonna hold their place
Didn’t know the sky was a river of stars
Guess you never know young when you are
Been years since I heard her voice
Or wished on a shooting star

In the older places
were the shapes of dreams
all mixed up
with other things
My friends leave their longing
with the buttons they got
done up all wrong
singing songs, we were young

CHORUS:
People gonna have the heartache
They ain’t gonna hold their place
Didn’t know the sky was a river of stars
Guess you never know young when you are
Been years since I heard her voice
Or wished on a shooting star

I stand at the river
now older than we were
hear the water ask why
in a lonesome cry
In my old ghost house
there’s a love note stuck
in the stacks of songs
I hear wind, hear what she was

CHORUS:
People gonna have the heartache
They ain’t gonna hold their place
Didn’t know the sky was a river of stars
Guess you never know young when you are
Been years since I heard her voice
Or wished on a shooting star

then SOLO

It ain’t an emptiness
that gets to you
not the lonely dreams
they ain’t what they seem
In the cry of the wind
the sound of her voice
the breath of her song
it’s a hot rush like wild fire
